Muggers steal from unconscious victim

Date published: 02 May 2009

Thieves knocked a man to the ground and stole his coat while he was unconscious.

At 11.10pm on Thursday 9 April, the 35-year-old victim was walking along Heywood Road, Castleton, when he saw five youths.

One of them asked him for a cigarette, he ignored them and carried on walking.

The man then felt a crack on the back of his head, fell to the floor and remembers nothing more before waking up in hospital.

He discovered that his black three-quarter length Prada 314 jacket, which has a red Prada badge on the left sleeve, had been taken. The jacket contained the victim's house keys and money.

The victim has since been released from hospital.

Detective Constable Tim O'Callaghan, of Rochdale Robbery Unit said: "This man quite sensibly chose not to stop and engage with these youngsters late at night.

"I am disgusted that he was knocked unconscious and while he was out cold, they took the coat off his back.

"These pathetic individuals need bringing to justice and I'd urge anyone that knows who they are to contact me."

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochdale Robbery Unit on 0161 856 8632 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
