Date published: 29 April 2009
Two horses were found dead in the road yesterday (Tuesday 28 April) after a tragic accident.
The first horse was hit by on oncoming car on Edinburgh Way just before 3.00pm.
Fire fighters explained how the second horse collapsed next to its deceased companion, and later died itself.
The driver of the vehicle, a woman from Rochdale, was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
It is believed the horses were released from a nearby field.
A spokesman from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “From what we can tell the second horse was not hit by a car at all, it just collapsed.
“The first horse was hit by an oncoming car. They were both found in the road and removed as soon as possible”.
