Man dragged along road as driver fails to stop in Heywood collision

Date published: 27 April 2009

A man was dragged along the street by a car in Heywood and had to be taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury.

The white Toyota people carrier involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene of the accident.

At about 4.15am on Saturday morning (25 April), the people carrier stopped on Market Place and the 32-year old victim, who was a passenger in the car, got out and went to a nearby cash machine.

The man then returned to the car and spoke to the driver through the front seat passenger window for a short time before the car drove off, dragging the man along the road.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury and remains in a stable condition.

It is believed the Toyota may be a private hire taxi that had picked the victim up from Manchester city centre before the incident occurred.

Police are appealing for the driver or anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Anyone with any information is asked to call traffic police on 0161 856 8809 or Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050.
