Shrek competition – a family hit

Date published: 14 August 2007

Over 120 children went Shrek crazy with the Family Information Service at the recent Play Day in Rochdale town centre.  The budding and talented artists coloured in their favourite characters from the latest blockbuster movie with the chance of winning a Shrek goodie bag.

The entries were judged by SureStart staff members and although there were some great designs and very colourful entries, there could only be three winners.

Winner in the 0 – 4 age group was Gemma Holden of Shawclough. Gemma’s favourite Shrek character is Princess Fiona. Gemma attended the Play Day with her mum and some friends.

Winner in the 5 - 8 category was Jessica Ann Frater of Littleborough. Jessica’s design shone out from 51 excellent entries in her category.

Ten year old Celeste Jones topped the Over 9’s category with her coloured in Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots. Celeste attended the Play Day with the rest for her holiday club. For Celeste it topped off a successful week after winning a chance to be in the audience on a children’s TV programme.

Over 200 Children, parents and carers from across Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood all flocked to the popular Family Information Service stand at the Rochdale Play Day to find out more about the childcare activities available in Rochdale.
