Large blaze at former Dunlop Mill

Date published: 22 April 2009

Dunlop Mill has set ablaze for the second time in under two months.

Witnesses reported “thick black smoke” covering Edinburgh Way as fire fighters tackle the flames, which started at 10.30 this morning (Wednesday 22 April).

Five fire engines from Rochdale, Heywood and Chadderton are currently on scene.

Rochdale Online News understands the fire was started by some machinery inside the building.

The Soccer Factory is unaffected and remains open as usual.

Danielle McBride, who works on Sandbrook Park said: “There is thick black smoke everywhere, it looks really big”.

This is the second time the mill has been on fire this year, following another blaze on 20 February.

Crews are still on scene. (11:20am).
