Cold caller strikes in Castleton
Date published: 21 April 2009
Police are warning Castleton residents to be on the lookout after an elderly woman paid £260 to cold callers to do some work on her house.
Two male traders called at her home and talked to her about doing some work on the roof. The woman agreed to have plastic put on the roof to cover some concrete and paid the men up front.
The men arrived at 11.45am on Friday and started work straight away. However, they were only on the roof for 20 minutes and left before the work was finished.
The men were seen driving a white transit van; the woman believes that they both have Irish accents, and one of them has brown hair and is around 5ft 6in tall.
Anyone who sees these men is asked to report any information to the police on 0161 872 5050.
