Postman injured in van robbery
Date published: 19 April 2009
A postman suffered serious head injuries when he tried to prevent his van from being stolen on Saturday morning (18 April).
The postman had been making a delivery on Milnrow Road when a thief tried to steal his van. He was dragged along the road as he tried to prevent the getaway.
The thief was able to drive away in the red Ford Transit van but he abandoned it a short distance away.
Detective Inspector John Mazzolai said: "The postman was incredibly brave in trying to stop this opportunistic thief from driving off and, unfortunately, his bravery has left him in hospital with a head injury.
"At this stage, I would like to hear from anyone who saw the theft or perhaps saw the Royal Mail van being driven erratically at about the time of the incident to come forward so we can find this man."
