Cast your nominations for Design Awards

Date published: 16 April 2009

Rochdale residents are being asked to nominate a new development that has caught their eye for a Rochdale Borough Design Award.

Rochdale Council is asking people to let them know what they think are the best examples of good design in the town.

Councillor Wera Hobhouse, cabinet member for environment and sustainability on the Council said: “Good design is not a luxury add-on - it has to be at the core of what we build. People’s behaviour is heavily influenced by the environment they live in and we want to inspire people by good design.

“We want to accept nothing less than the highest quality of design in all new developments across the borough, to help make Rochdale a place that people can be proud of.”

The development, which could be a building, a public space, conservation or regeneration project, must have been completed in the borough between July 2007 and December 2008 to qualify.

There are two awards – the Rochdale Borough Design Award, which will be decided by a panel of experts in the field, and the People’s Design Award, which will be decided by public vote.

Before the final votes take place, a shortlist of developments will be drawn up from public nominations.

Online nomination forms can be found on the council’s website at www.rochdale.gov.uk or you can request a nomination form by calling 01706 924371 or writing to Planning and Regulation Service, Rochdale Borough Council, Floor 2, Telegraph House, Baillie Street, Rochdale OL16 1JH.

The closing date for nominations is 1 May.
