‘Help save Castleton Carnival’

Date published: 15 April 2009

The treasurer of Castleton Carnival is appealing for help to keep Castleton Carnival alive, after watching the event get “smaller every year”.

Frank Cryer hopes local people will once again club together to make the carnival what it once was – with an array of floats and displays.

The carnival, which runs from Chesham to Springfield Park, has been a precious tradition in the town for decades.

Frank has decided to appeal through Rochdale Online News for local people who are interested in being involved in this years carnival, provisionally set for 25/26 July.

He said: “Over the years the number of floats have gone down, and so has the number of people who are involved.

“I know how everyone still loves the carnival, so hopefully some people would like to come forward to help us breathe some new life into it”.

Mr Cryer also mentioned how increased costs have caused extra pressure.

He added: “We are looking for any sponsors and organisations who would like to take part, any help would be so highly appreciated, let’s get our carnival back”.
