Masked thugs made ‘war cries’ as they attacked a Co-op shop in a failed robbery attempt.
Quick-thinking staff at the store on Kenyon Lane managed to run inside and block the doors before the men had managed to gain entrance at the store, which took place last month.
The pair kicked vigorously at the doors before running back to their car, knocking a pedestrian on the way.
Police have now confirmed they are still hunting the men, who made off in a silver Mondeo after the attack at 6.40am on Thursday 5 March.
The duo drove off in the car, which was later found abandoned nearby. It is believed the Mondeo was stolen from Birchwood Road earlier that day.
Police are now appealing to anyone who has information about the incident to come forward.
The first man was described as white, about 19-years-old, of stocky build and about 6ft tall.
He had mousy hair and was wearing dark clothes with his hood pulled up over his head and a black baseball cap with a white stripe. The second man was also white, 19-years-old, 6ft tall and of a skinny build. He was also wearing dark clothes.
Detective Constable Chris Whalley, based at Rochdale CID, said: "Luckily, no-one was injured and the would-be thieves did not manage to get their hands on any property.
"However, the intent was clear and they clearly targeted this store at a time when they knew a delivery was imminent.
"It must have been very frightening for the staff to be confronted by these men screaming at them as they ran towards the shop, so it is vital we catch these men before they try and strike again.
"I would particularly appeal to the member of the public who was confronted by these men to call us so we can build up a picture of who they are."
Anyone with information should call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 8552 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
