Landlady in pub burglary shock

Date published: 14 April 2009

A pub landlady was startled to find a group of men burgling her pub in the middle of the afternoon.

Three men broke into the Cemetery Hotel on Bury Road on Tuesday (7 April). They started to remove electrical items before loading them into a blue people carrier.

Landlady Amanda Chay then returned to the pub to find the men inside, and tried to stop them, but the group got away, leaving from the exit that backs onto Sandy Lane.

The offenders managed to steal only a few electrical tools.

One of the men is described as being white and in his late 20s, tall, of large build and with short red hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue tracksuit bottoms.

The second man is described as being white, 25-years-old, of slim build and 5ft 10in tall. He had long dark hair and was wearing a dark coloured hooded top.

The third man is described as having olive skin and dark hair.

Detective Sergeant Martin Souter said: "It must have been very startling for the victim to find these men trying to steal property from them her in this audacious way.

"Sandy Lane would have been quite busy with traffic and we confident that there were people who would have seen something happening at this time.

"Anyone who can help should get in touch."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8427 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
