Faithful go on the march
Date published: 10 April 2009
Crowds of people gathered in the town centre for the traditional Easter Walk of Witness.
The Mayor and Mayoress joined with church leaders and marchers of many different Christian denominations from across the borough and made their way through the streets, stopping in several places to sing, pray, and rejoice.
Passers-by and families stopped what they were doing to follow the march, which proceeded from The Salvaion Army, Newgate and up Yorkshire Street, before heading back to the Salvation Army Hall.
Local politicians and members from Greater Manchester Police also took part in the event, as did local musicians and drummers.
