Charity show for Christie's cancer fund

Date published: 09 April 2009

A Rochdale man is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Christie's new radiotherapy centre at the Royal Oldham Hospital, and Rochdale Online are backing him all the way.

Former Rochdale Online employee Rod Barry has been asked by regional appeals officer Jacky Plant to spearhead an appeal to raise £100,000 for the new centre, which will serve patients in Rochdale and across Greater Manchester.

"I am hoping to raise as much money as possible," said Rod. "The Oldham Chronicle are behind the campaign and Rochdale Online are putting their resources behind the appeal so there's a lot of support for what we're trying to do but we need people to give generously if we are going to achieve our goal."

The first fundraiser comes later this month with a charity show at Newtown National Club on Nixon Street in Castleton on 24 April. Rod will be performing in the show himself, alongside other local artists Rod Kay, top female vocalist Riocca, and Rochdale's own Jules and Journeaux.

Tickets are priced at just £3 each from Newtown club and there will be a raffle on the night for what is apparently the biggest teddybear in Rochdale.

On Thursday 9 July, A Take That & Robbie Reunion Show, featuring Totally Take That and Danny Lowry as Robbie, will take to the stage at the Ocean Treasure Restaurant in Middleton. Guests can see the Take That One show and enjoy a full Chinese banquet for £22 a head.

Bookings can be made through the restaurant on 0161 653 6688.

Rod Barry said: "Take That are on at Old Trafford at the end of June and sold out immediately, so if anyone missed out this tribute are fantastic. I have worked with them myself."
