Warning after chimney fire (Kirkholt)
Date published: 09 April 2009
Fire fighters have issued a warning after an uncleaned chimney caused a fire this morning (Wednesday 9 April).
Crews attended Dunlop Avenue, Kirkholt, at 10.00am to extinguish the flames which they say could easily have burned the house down if left unattended.
Crew Commander Craig Rawlinson, from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, has urged everyone to sweep their chimneys every six months to prevent more of the same incidents.
He said: “It’s often something we don’t think about in this day and age. But chimneys are still there and they can still get dirty and bunged up, everyone should clean them regularly”.
