Young mastermind aims for the sky

Date published: 07 April 2009

A young mastermind who passed a GCSE exam at just 10 years old is now working towards even higher grades.

Whiz kid Jaime Van-hunskerken got a B grade in science last year after attending a class of adult learners with his mum.

And he isn’t stopping there.

The 11-year-old is now aiming for his maths GCSE at Oldham College, and has already stunned his fellow classmates by landing an A* on the first module.

Young Jaime, from Leander Drive, Castleton, told Rochdale Online News how he isn’t bothered about the grades, but he just likes to learn about science and maths.

Proud mum Daisy said: “He is certainly very unusual.

“He keeps asking for books about the universe and physics, and he’ll sit for hours reading sci-fi books.

“I keep buying them for him and he gets through them at an incredible rate.

“He got the same grade as me in the GCSE, and to be honest I wasn’t surprised because I know what he’s capable of”.

Jaime said he was surprised and happy to have already secured a place at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School.

He said: “I don’t really know what I want to be when I grow up. I keep changing my mind. I’m not really that bothered yet”.
