Scooters to help combat crime at shopping centre
Date published: 07 April 2009

The Wheatsheaf Centre's new Segway scooters could help stop crime.
A new security measure has arrived at the Wheatsheaf Centre to help security guards fight the battle against crime.
The Segway scooter can travel up to 20mph making it easier to catch shoplifters and get to those in need quicker.
Martin Ballard, Shopping Centre Manager said: "The Sedgeway was the idea of our security company ISS Pegasus and it's great that they are tackling old issues with new approaches. The Segway is great for getting from one location to another safely in minimal time and ensuring, no matter how long the chase, you arrive in good shape to deal with it."
The Centre has also found a good solution to empty shopping units in order to appear more enticing and to attract new investment in Rochdale town centre. Brightly coloured graphics fill vacant shop windows to produce a more exciting and vibrant atmosphere.
Mr Ballard said: "The vinyl graphics take away the effect of any empty shop and provide our visitors with a cheerful image, as well as delivering all the details needed for its main objective of getting the unit occupied again."
