The Big Clean moves into Entwistle Road
Date published: 06 April 2009
The Big Clean team at Rochdale Borough Council has been ‘springing into action’ to embark on its latest tidy up project on a piece of land on Entwistle Road.
The area of land is one of 42 sites across the borough to be selected for a tidy up as part of the council’s Big Clean campaign. A few months ago, the council put an extra £100,000 towards cleaning up the borough – and all of the ideas for what was done with that money came from you.
Work on the spare land along Entwistle Road has included placing large boulders to prevent vehicle access and removing a large shrub bed, which has been a haven for drug users and instances of anti-social behaviour.
Once finished, the council hopes that it will provide a safe area for children to play.
Councilor Wera Hobhouse, cabinet member for environment and sustainability, is delighted with the progress. She said: “This is another fine example of residents’ ideas becoming a reality.
"The extra £100,000 that was put towards tidying up the borough as part of the Big Clean has been put to good use – and its all thanks to the residents for nominating some really worthy areas.”
