Executive Director for Transformation
Rochdale Borough Council has announced the appointment of Pam Smith as their new Executive Director for Transformation.
Pam previously worked as the council’s Head of Performance and Development and is credited with supporting the council’s recent improvement from a two to a three star authority.
She has been with the council for three years and previously worked at the Audit Commission.
In her new role she will oversee the council’s corporate services including finance, communications, customer services, policy, performance and organisational development. She will also strategically lead the council’s cross-cutting transformation programme.
She said: “This borough has immense potential and I am excited by the challenge of delivering against the council’s ambitious improvement programme to make a real difference to people’s lives.
Working with the wider leadership team and with partners, I intend to ensure that the council maximises its potential to deliver only excellent and improving services that are both value for money and that meet customer needs.”
Council Leader, Alan Taylor said: “Since joining the council Pam has worked hard to deliver real changes that make a positive difference to people’s lives. She is passionate about the borough and committed to making a real and lasting difference.
"I am confident that she will work quickly to build on the strong foundations already in place to deliver transformation.”
Leader of the Labour Group on Rochdale Borough Council Councillor Colin Lambert said that Pam was a strong candidate:
“We feel that Pam is the person who can build on and speed up the much needed transformation.”
Leader of the Conservative Group, Councillor Ashley Dearnley added:
“I would like to wish Pam every success in her new role. I hope that she drives forward the changes that are required, which after all, are for the benefit of local residents, which is what matters.”
Born and bred in neighbouring Oldham, Pam is married with one daughter.
She is expected to take up her appointment with immediate effect and will succeed Margaret Carney who has recently taken up post as Chief Executive of Sefton Borough Council.
