Blue recycling bins wheeled out

Date published: 06 April 2009

Blue recycling bins have been wheeled out across the borough for residents that can not fit all of their recycling into the blue bags.

Peter Cunningham, head of Rochdale Council’s environmental management service, said: “Blue recycling bins are ideal if you use a lot of blue bags due to the large amount of paper and cardboard you recycle, or if you’ve had problems with your blue bags going missing.

“Having a blue bin is optional, so only ask for one if you recycle lots of paper and have the space to store the bin.”

New 2009/10 refuse and recycling calendars will be sent out over the next two weeks. They will include information about all the materials residents can send to be recycled and list the day and the week recyclable and landfill waste will be collected.

Peter Cunningham added: “Please make every effort to recycle as much as you possibly can. We cannot stress how important this is, because the more you recycle the less waste we send to landfill and more new materials are made from your recyclable waste."

The council’s target is to recycle 50% of the borough’s waste by 2012.
