‘High-rise’ to the challenge for Hospice

Date published: 06 April 2009

As part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations, Springhill Hospice are holding special one-off events throughout the year.

The first of these will be Rochdale’s very first ‘Vertical Sprint’ – a race against time up the twelve floors of the Municipal Building, aka ‘the Black Box’, using just the stairs.

Ian Jenkins, Fundraising Manager, explained: “I was made aware of an event that takes place in Singapore every year called the ‘Vertical Marathon’ where individuals race up the 73-storey Swissôtel building and thought that perhaps we could bring such an unusual event to Rochdale. We don’t perhaps have 73 storeys to tackle, but I am sure that the 12 we do have are enough of a challenge!

“We are looking for each participant to register for just £5 and would ask that they obtain sponsorship to both celebrate our 20 year milestone and to help raise vital funds during what is sure to be a difficult year.”

The event will take place on Sunday 10 May commencing at 11:00am when each participant will get three attempts to achieve their best time.

Interested parties should contact the Hospice Fundraising team on 01706 649920 or email fundraising@springhillhospice.nhs.uk to receive a registration form.
