Brewing up a solution

Jim Dobbin MP
Heywood and Middleton MP Jim Dobbin has signed a parliamentary motion to relieve pub landlords who are tied into expensive contracts with brewers.
The Labour MP signed the Early Day Motion, calling on the Government to scrap pub ties, freeing landlords from lengthy agreements, which they cannot afford to maintain during the recession.
The move follows disappointing news that 34 bars in the borough of Rochdale have been forced to close down since June 2005.
Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has previously signed a similar motion calling for more support for the town’s pubs.
Calling Last Orders
The Gale Inn, Whitworth Road, was demolished to make way for flats, while the Citizen (Drake Street), the Church Inn (Castleton), the George and Dragon (Castleton) and the Queens (Milkstone Road) are among the huge number of favoured pastimes which have shut shop in the past few years.
