Operation to drive down town centre motoring offences
Date published: 03 April 2009
Rochdale police moved to reduce driving offences in the town centre this week when they issued on-the-spot fines to motorists flouting the restrictions on South Parade.
A total of 30 drivers were hit with £30 fines for driving along South Parade between the restricted hours of 7am and 6pm.
The fines could affect the motorists' car insurance premiums, which were issued to warn drivers of the consequences of flouting the law.
Rochdale North Neighbourhood Policing Team's PC Daniel Shirazi said: "I hope that these measures will send out a message to all motorists that there are consequences for ignoring the restrictions and that this in turn may reduce the number of offences committed."
