Diggers are in at Whipp and Bourne

It is officially the end of an era as the diggers take to the old Whipp and Bourne building in Castleton.
The famous manufacturing giants, who have been trading since 1903 closed down last year with over 100 local jobs lost, putting the business down as part of Rochdale’s trading history.
Jim Dobbin MP spoke out about the redundancies at Prime Minister’s Question Time, but the closure of the business made it an inevitability.
Whipp and Bourne was started by two electrical engineers, and grew into a major employer for Rochdale.
Charles Bourne and Samuel Whipp started their quest in 1903 and began specialising in marine switchgear, supplying the Titanic and the Yacht Britannia.
