Traffic problems in Heywood after road collapses
Date published: 17 August 2007
Motorists are being advised to avoid part of Heywood after a road collapsed this morning, Friday 17 August 2007.
Shortly after 7am, a section of Bamford Road near the junction with Claybank collapsed.
The collapse appears to have ruptured a water main which has caused some localised flooding in all directions.
Greater Manchester Police, the fire brigade and representatives from United Utilities and Rochdale Council are all at the scene.
Bamford Road has now been closed in both directions, as well as Claybank and West Starkey Street. The road closures are expected to remain in place for some time. There were no reports of any injuries in this incident and no premises have been evacuated.
Police officers are remaining at the scene and details of updates will be issued when they become available.
