Train drivers victims of stone attacks
Date published: 02 April 2009
The East Lancashire Railway is considering suspending services following a series of stone throwing attacks on drivers.
The latest incident saw a trainee driver temporarily lose conciousness when he was hit by a missile thrown from the side of the track near Heywood Distribution Park.
Rochdale Council recently invested in £60,000 worth of security fencing along the Heywood to Bury line but the trespass and vandalism problems remain.
The steam trains between Heywood and Bury could now be suspended until passenger and driver safety can be guaranteed.
