Government to cough up for civil servant errors
Date published: 30 March 2009
The European Commission is to fine the Government “millions” for mistakes made by North West civil servants.
The Government Office for the North West has admitted the fine, which is to cover accounting errors, is to be handed out in the North West region, although an exact figure is yet to be announced.
Speculations have already begun that the hefty fines could result in cash being diverted from nationwide regeneration schemes.
A spokesman for The Government Office North West said the audit was carried out across the region, but exact figures have yet to be released.
The North East Region will total up £8M.
Rochdale Online is awaiting an official comment from The Government Office North West.
