Pensioner fights off intruders
Date published: 27 March 2009
A pensioner battled with three intruders and punched one of them in the face after they broke into her home on Halifax Road in Hurstead.
The 81-year old woman fought off the men after finding them in the kitchen of her house.
The men showed a false ID card and said that they were from the electricity board but the pensioner was not fooled and screamed for them to get out of the house before punching one of them in the face. She pushed them out of the door and they ran away empty-handed.
The woman was left extremely shaken by the incident but was not injured. She went into a nearby florists shop and staff there called the police.
She was taken to Rochdale Infirmary by paramedics but was discharged after a check-up.
Police are looking for three white male suspects in connection with the incident.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 8552.
