Hero teens in house blaze rescue
Date published: 21 March 2009
Two hero teens risked their lives to rescue a man from his burning house.
Fire fighters have honoured Tahir Ayoub, 14, and Nadeem Riaz, 17, after they climbed into a house on Channing Court, Newbold yesterday (Friday 20 March) after noticing a man sleeping among the flames.
The brave youngsters picked up the 22-year-old man and dragged him to safety at about 3.30pm, and then called the emergency services.
The man has been taken to hospital, and the two teens emerged uninjured.
Watch Commander Andy Roberts, from Green watch, said: “It was very brave of these youngsters to do what they did and we all honour them as heroes.
“What’s tragic is, the man did actually have a smoke alarm, but we believe he had been drinking and was in a deep sleep.
“I’d like to remind everyone to make sure you can hear your smoke alarm, if you need a new one or you don’t have one, they are available from Rochdale Fire Station”.
