Teen robbed in street
Date published: 21 March 2009
A 15-year-old boy was threatened and had his mobile phone stolen during a robbery in Rochdale.
The victim was walking along Lower Sheriff Street between 6pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday 17 February 2009, when a man grabbed his phone.
The offender searched the victim's pockets and demanded cash. He then walked away saying he needed to use the phone.
A man who was with the offender then told the victim he would help get his phone back and they followed the first man toward the steps at the side of the Golden Mosque.
The victim asked for his phone back and grabbed it but the offender pushed him to the floor and told him he had a knife.
The second man tried to pull the offender away but he grabbed the phone, kicked the victim and ran off.
The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the robbery.
The offender is described as mixed race, of thin build, 6ft to 6ft 1in tall, aged 18 to 23. He had a big flat nose, dark eyes, cropped black hair and was wearing a black jacket with goggles in the hood, black jeans and trainers and had a northern accent.
The man that was with the offender is described as Asian, aged 19 to 20, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of thin build with short black hair. He was wearing dark jeans, a black jacket and had bright coloured shoelaces.
Detective Sergeant Sam Halligan from the volume crime team said: "Although this happened just over a month ago, the victim has been able to provide some good descriptions, which I am sure someone will recognise.
"If you have any information about the man responsible for this cruel attack, or the person he was with, then please call me."
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8632 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
