Fundraising night following tragic mum's pub death

Date published: 20 March 2009

The family of Emma O’Kane, who died after being hit with a glass bottle in a Heywood pub, have organised a special fundraising night in her honour.

The barmaid and mother-of-three died on Boxing Day after Neil McNulty threw a glass bottle into the crowded Queen Anne Hotel, which pierced her throat.

Neil McNulty,19, pleaded guilty to manslaughter when he appeared at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday (17 March 2009).

Emma’s uncle, John O’Kane, has organised a race night at the Midland Beer Company, Castleton, on Saturday April 4, to remember his “lovely” niece.

Local businesses in Castleton and Heywood are supporting the night which will also include a raffle.

Attendance on the night does not require tickets and the first race will take place at 8.00pm.

John O’Kane said: “The response from people has been really good. I’d like to say a special thanks to businesses in Castleton who have donated items for the raffle and shown there sincere support”.

Raffle tickets are available from the Midland.

Rochdale Online has agreed to take donations at the office, 847-849, Manchester Road, Castleton, OL11 2UY.

For more details, contact John O’Kane on 01706 352242.
