Share your ideas for community safety spending plans in Heywood

Date published: 18 March 2009

People in Heywood have until Friday (20 March) to have their say on how the council and police should spend £20,000 on improving community safety in the area.

Heywood’s Young Spirit has started receiving applications from people in Heywood all hoping to cash in their ideas for a portion of the money.

There are three pots of cash up for grabs; £3000, £7000 and £10,000, designed to be spent helping to address and resolve community safety concerns that local people have in Heywood.

Duncan Pearse, from Heywood’s Young Spirit, said: “People’s ideas have been coming in fast but we want more. If you have a community safety issue or concern I suggest you let us know by filling in an application form today and see if your idea could become a reality.

“So far we have had requests for additional CCTV security in Heywood and have discussed other security measures such as extra fire and burglary alarms, as well as improved street lighting options, which are all good ideas and could greatly improve community safety concerns in local communities.”

All entries will be checked to ensure they are suitable. Then applicants will be invited to an event on Saturday 28 March at St James Church, Heywood where representatives from the Heywood community will vote for the projects they think will benefit the community the most.

Whichever projects prove to be most popular will receive funding.

There is still time to send in your ideas. To request an application form please call 01706 691040 or email heywoodsyoungspirit@live.co.uk
