Robbers threaten family with screwdrivers

On the hunt: Police say they are "determined" to catch the robbers who stole from a family and their children.
Police have issued descriptions of the masked robbers who threatened a family with screwdrivers and stole £5000 from their home.
Rochdale Online reported yesterday (Tuesday 17 March) how a gang of four robbers, armed with screwdrivers and a fire extinguisher, smashed their way into The Wishing Well, Harbour Lane in the early hours of Monday 16 March, were the family live.
The gang burst into a bedroom where a terrified couple lay in bed, with their children next door, and demanded cash.
Frightened for their safety, the couple handed over £5000, and the robbers continued to steal two Nintendo DS consoles belonging to the children, who were asleep in another room.
Police say the gang escaped through the same window they broke in through, and made off in a car down Harbour Lane.
Today, Greater Manchester Police issued descriptions of the men to help them with their search.
They are all described as white men and were wearing dark clothing.
There is a more detailed description of only one of the men who was white, about 5ft 7in tall and aged about 20. He had light coloured shaved hair, was of medium build and was wearing a grey jacket at the time of the robbery.
All the offenders spoke with strong Manchester accents.
A member of staff, who did not want to be named, said: “I was not around at the time but I do know everyone is ok and the pub is open for business as usual”.
Detective Constable Nick Price from Rochdale CID said: "This couple were sleeping soundly when these thugs broke into their home and stole from them and their children.
“We are determined to catch the people who did this, and have several lines of inquiry to follow, but if you know anything please get in touch."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Rochdale CID on 0161 856 1977 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
