Smallbridge residents urged to beware bogus callers
Date published: 18 March 2009
Police are urging Smallbridge residents to beware a pair of bogus callers who targeted an elderly resident last week.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon (13 March), when one of the offenders knocked on the door of the elderly resident's bungalow and asked them to come outside and look at the damp proofing on their house.
The victim refused but the offender gained access to the house and led them into the kitchen. While they were distracted a second man entered the house through the open front door and went into the living room. There he was surprised to find the resident's friend sat in the room, which panicked him into leaving the house.
The first offender also left empty handed.
The first man is described as 5'9" tall with a heavy build in his late 40s or early 50s. He wore a black woolly hat, dark coat and dark tracksuit bottoms with paint down one leg.
The second offender was a similar height with a medium or stocky build in his late 20s or 30s. He wore a black and red chequered lumber jacket and light blue jeans.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 0161 872 5050.
