Customer service awards

Date published: 05 October 2007

Over 150 Rochdale Council staff who have "gone the extra mile" were honoured at a special awards ceremony. The  event, part of National Customer Services week (1-7 October 2007), was designed to recognise employees who consistently go beyond the call of duty to really make a difference.

Staff that had been nominated for a service excellence award were presented with certificates, and prizes were given out for the best team and best individual overall.

Chief Executive Roger Ellis opened the event and said staff deal with thousands of customers every day and it’s vitally important that they always put them first:

"Dealing with people is a crucial part of all of our jobs and it's important that we acknowledge this when it's done well".

Council leader, Alan Taylor said the awards were about recognising the valuable contribution that staff make:

"People might not realise it, but the council provides more than 500 different types of services for local people. Whether it's a gardener who regularly takes the time to check up on an older resident, or a teacher who notices a particular shop selling to underage children and shares this information with trading standards. All of these little things help us be a better council and ultimately really make a difference to people's lives".

The top prize for ‘Best Individual’ went to Janet Greenhalgh from Child Care Services, who works as an Occupational Therapist in Heywood. The Asylum Seekers Support Team based in Rochdale were voted ‘Best Overall Team’.
