Supermarket chiefs planning the demolition of Tesco Sudden to make way for a superstore said they are still unable to set a date for construction.
An application to redevelop the Supermarket was approved by Rochdale Borough Council late last year. The store is due to close for nine months while the work takes place, but it is still unclear how soon this will be.
The new superstore will be on stilts, making way for a large car park to be built underneath.
A spokesperson from the company said they are still in negotiations with planners to discuss the agreement, which requires the developer to provide either affordable housing and green space on the site or pay a sum of money to the council to provide these facilities elsewhere.
Tesco reassured staff that there would be no job losses as a result of this development.
