Firefighters All In A Lather

Date published: 10 September 2007

This weekend promises to be a treat for those who keep putting off washing the car, as the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund’s (FSNBF) National Car Wash 2007 rolls into the Rochdale borough. The fire stations in Heywood, Littleborough and Rochdale are all taking part in the event this Saturday, 15 September.

The event will also be an opportunity for people to have a chat about their personal fire safety with the Fire fighters, whilst their car is being given a gleaming polish. The day will be a chance to get involved with a genuinely important cause, brush up on your home fire safety and drive away with a spotlessly clean car.

There is a very serious reason as to why this event is taking place at Fire Stations across the UK; to raise much needed funds for the FSNBF – the UK’s Fire Charity. In return for cleaning your car, fire-fighters will be asking for a small donation in order to support the FSNBF.

County Fire Officer Barry Dixon said: “The National Car Wash Day is a great opportunity for us to raise money for a worthwhile cause which has benefited many fire-fighters and their families over the years. For just one day we hope to see thousands of gleaming cars on the streets of Greater Manchester!”

So if you have a dirty car and can’t be bothered cleaning it then take it to a fire station near you and let a fire-fighter do it for you!

The FSNBF was initially established to help orphans of the National and Auxiliary Fire Service who were killed during the second world war.

Today the Fund provides a range of services such as therapy and rehabilitation facilities, recuperation and sheltered housing, in addition to recently introducing much needed child and therapy programmes.
