Staff devasted as hospital trust loses ophthalmology services tender
Date published: 18 October 2007
Pennine Acute Trust has, despite what it describes as a "very strong bid", not been succesful in its tender for the Rochdale Ophthalmology CATS service, losing out to a private company, Care UK.
The Trust has acknowledged to staff that there "may be some impact on Trust services" and has promised to work with Heywood, Middleon amp; Rochdale Primary Care Trust to gain a greater understanding of any potential service implications.
Hospital staff are devastated at the news, which was announced by Councillor Brenda Kerslake at last night's (Wednesday 17 October) full council meeting.
Care UK claim as yet to be unaware that their tender has been successful. When contacted and asked to comment, Chris Udall for Care UK said: "We haven’t heard either way if our tender has been successful" - a memo has been sent for distribution to Pennine Acute staff explaining they have not won the tender and Care UK were the other of only two short-listed bidders.
A spokesman for Pennine Acute Trust refused to comment.
