Voices for Hospices in memory of Annie Wilson

Date published: 14 September 2007

To tie in with the International Voices for Hospice concerts that are held around the world during the weekend of 6 amp; 7 October, Springhill Hospice are organising a very special concert of their own in memory of Annie Wilson, the hospice fundraiser who passed away in July of this year.

Under her stage name of ‘Annie Laurence’, she had performed as a singer and dancer for practically all of her adult life – first as a professional in venues around the world, then as a semi-professional across the UK.

Ian Jenkins, Fundraising Manager at Springhill Hospice, said: “Annie’s son, Oliver, mentioned the idea of a memorial concert in a very moving speech that he gave at his mum’s funeral. I recently spoke with Oliver and Annie’s partner, Jonathan, about linking the concert with the Voices for Hospices event and they were both very receptive to the idea.”

The line-up of acts taking part includes local comic Dudley Dolittle, radio personality and hospice patron Norman Prince, top impressionist Johnny More and 1960’s all-girl group the Vernon Girls. Other performers confirmed to appear are Dave McLeod, Tabu, City Lights and the Steve Warburton Band.

Ian Jenkins continued: “It should be a great night and a fitting way for Annie to be remembered by all of her old friends and colleagues, as well as those of us who only knew her for a short time before her sad passing.”

The concert will be held at Heywood Civic Hall on Sunday 7 October 2007, commencing at 7:30pm. Tickets, priced at £12.00, which includes a potato-pie supper, are available from Springhill Hospice Fundraising Office on 01706 711144.
