Free fun for all at Boarshaw Clough

Date published: 18 November 2008

This Saturday (22 November) Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale are holding an event day at the Boarshaw Clough Nature Site in Middleton.

The day runs from 10.30am to 2pm with activities including arts and crafts and an African drumming workshop.

The event is free for all and Groundwork is hoping as many local residents as possible come to support the on-going work at the site.

Boarshaw Clough, situated off Rochdale Road, has undergone a large transformation. Initially used as a mill, part of the land was used as landfill before Groundwork began improving the area, while the rest was derelict.

Improvements by Groundwork include the installation of artwork and an amphitheatre, fishing facilities for the disabled, extensive woodland management and footpath improvements for greater accessibility.

Most recent work at the site has been dedicated to path improvements, aided by Groundwork’s Middleton Prince’s Trust Team, while St. John Fisher Primary School recently took part in a nature trail and kite making day.

Rosa McCannon, volunteer project officer, Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, said: “There have been dramatic improvements to the site over the years.

"Importantly, we are dedicated to further improving and maintaining Boarshaw Clough in the future. The primary aim of the event day is to increase awareness and community involvement of the site, making sure that people in Rochdale know they have this wonderful place on their doorstep.”

Rochdale residents are encouraged to visit the site on Saturday to enjoy the activities, while food and refreshments will also be provided.
