Fun4Families Day a huge success

Date published: 24 October 2007

The Parenting Support Team at Sure Start are celebrating after the huge success of the Fun4Families Day at Woodland Children’s Centre.  Over 200 fathers, mothers, grandparents, carers and their families took part in the fun day which was the culmination of a weeks events around the Rochdale borough.

Fun4Families was organised by families for families with a core dedicated team of 50 parents from the Parents Matter2, a parents forum based at the Children’s Centres around the borough.  There were craft activities, face painting, circus skills, live entertainment, a visit from the fire service and outdoor team sports to entertain visitors of all ages.

There was an opportunity to meet the Mayor and Mayoress and they kindly contributed to the Parents Charter that parent forums have been working on for the past 6 months.

There were thirty three separate events that celebrated National Parents Week, participants included children centres, nurseries, community groups, primary and secondary schools across Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood. The team were invited to attend Lowerplace School. The school attracted over 70 parents to the school, and they were given the opportunity to enjoy light refreshments, meet the school staff and look at services within their community and enjoy observing their own children in the classrooms.

Parent forums take place on a regular basis across the borough. Parents Matter2 meet on a monthly basis at venues across Rochdale. Pennines, Heywood and Middleton.
