Middleton Liberal Democrats have selected local campaigner Rhoda Morley to fight the Middleton North Byelection. Council Officials have now confirmed that Labour have called the election for Thursday, 29 November. The election was called following the death of Labour Councillor Ian Robertson.
Ms Morley said: "I am delighted to have been unanimously selected to fight for the Liberal Democrats. We have been working for some time on this campaign and have already made contact with hundreds of residents. I live locally and will be fighting for a better deal for the people of Middleton. We have delivered 18,000 leaflets in the area. Campaigning on issues like improving the environment, saving our Post Offices and extending the hours at Middleton Police Station and against anti-social behaviour and much more."
Cabinet Member for the Environment and Heywood and Middleton's Parliamentary Spokeswoman Wera Hobhouse said: "Rhoda and our team have got off to a flying start and we have already dealt with dozens of cases.
"Rhoda's survey was hugely popular - residents feel like they are finally being listened to. We will fight this election to win so that Middleton North can benefit from an active Lib Dem Councillor. We are confident that our positive message for change is being well received."
