Traffic operation tackles community concerns

Date published: 29 January 2025

A targeted traffic operation was conducted on Queensway by the Kirkholt and Castleton Neighbourhood Police Team in response to concerns raised by local residents.

The initiative, which took place last week, aimed to address community-reported issues and prioritise road safety in the area.

Queensway was specifically chosen as the location for the operation due to its significance as a hotspot for traffic offences, according to local feedback. The team emphasised that ensuring road safety and reducing casualties remain their top priorities.

The operation resulted in a series of enforcement actions:

  • Five Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) were issued for non-conforming registration plates.
  • One TOR was issued for driving without an MOT.
  • Six TORs were issued for using a handheld mobile device while driving.
  • One TOR was issued for failing to wear a seatbelt while driving.

In addition to traffic offences, officers conducted three stop-and-searches, one of which yielded positive results. This led to an arrest under Section 5A for cannabis-related offences.

Taxi licensing checks were also a key focus of the operation:

Twelve checks were conducted.

  • Three TORs were issued for minor traffic offences.
  • One licence was permanently suspended.
  • Four licences were temporarily suspended.

A spokesperson for the neighbourhood team said the operation underlined their commitment to addressing public concerns while improving safety on Rochdale’s roads.

The Kirkholt and Castleton Neighbourhood Police Team urged residents to continue reporting issues to help shape future operations aimed at creating a safer community.
