The New Pioneers Community Cafe is run by volunteers
A non-profit venture aimed at fostering community spirit through food and fellowship, has opened its doors at Spotland Community Centre.
Councillor Janet Emsley, who serves as the cafe’s patron, was present to do the honours at the opening ceremony at The New Pioneers Community Cafe at the centre last week.
Operating every Friday from 9am to 2.30pm, the volunteer-driven cafe offers a warm and inclusive environment where residents can connect over a menu featuring both hot and cold drinks, along with a variety of freshly prepared dishes. In keeping with its commitment to inclusivity, all meals are Halal, ensuring accessibility for the entire community.
Coffee lovers will find a treat in the cafe’s collaboration with the award-winning Darkwood coffee producers, a company celebrated for both its quality brews and ethical sourcing.
Daisy Silva, project manager of The New Pioneers project, described the cafe’s broader vision, saying: “Our vision is to create more than just a cafe - we're building a community hub where everyone is welcome.” She explained that, by operating as a non-profit and being staffed entirely by volunteers, the cafe can focus on serving the community above all else.
In addition to fostering community connections, the cafe’s volunteer-led structure offers locals a chance to contribute to their neighbourhood while gaining valuable experience in hospitality.
