KYP hosts successful mental health event

KYP proudly marked World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10 October 2024, by hosting an event that drew over 100 attendees to engage in discussions and access valuable mental health resources.

The gathering fostered a sense of community and collaboration, emphasising the importance of mental health awareness and support.

The event saw participation from several key local organisations, including Healthwatch Rochdale, Rochdale and District Mind, Living Well Rochdale, Your Trust Rochdale, Springhill Hospice, Andy’s Man Club Rochdale, Alzheimer’s Society, Early Break UK, Crossway Alliance, Action Together, NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Talking Therapies, Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, and Life’s Wellbeing.

The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Shakil Ahmed, attended the event, underscoring the importance of mental health resources. He said: “On mental health day, different organisations have set their information stalls, helping people to maintain their mental health.”

Councillor Sameena Zaheer also praised the event. She said: “It’s inspiring to see so many organisations gathered at KYP today to assist those who usually face challenges in accessing services.”

Zulf Ahmed, CEO of KYP, reflected on the day’s mission. He said:, “KYP is dedicated to helping people to fight isolation and empowering them to lead happy and healthy lives.”

Asma Bibi, community health officer at KYP and the main organiser of the event, expressed her satisfaction with its success.

She said: “Today’s event highlighted the strength of our local community and the commitment to mental health. By coming together, we can break down barriers and ensure that everyone has access to the support they need.”

The event was not just about raising awareness but also about building lasting connections to improve mental health resources in the community.
