Call for action as "careless" youths throw fireworks nights in a row

Date published: 11 October 2024

Police officers were called to several locations last night (Thursday 10 October) including Hare HIll Park in Littleborough, to disperse groups of youths throwing fireworks.

Passers-by turned around and went back home after seeing that the explosives were being carelessly set off in various directions from the park at around 8.30pm.

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “Parents need to be aware of what their kids are doing, the streets are swarming with them every night and now they’re launching fireworks in the park.

“It’s not just a nuisance because it’s noisy, it’s careless and dangerous... and makes people feel like they can’t go outside.

“We need a greater police presence in Littleborough. Or at least some sort of presence.”

“It would be a start if the parents were doing their bit.”

Greater Manchester Police said: “Our P1 Neighbourhood Policing Team have been busy today dealing with Anti-Social Behaviour with several reports of youths throwing fireworks in various locations, dispersed the young people and gathered intel regarding possible male/vehicle distributing the fireworks.

“If anyone has any intelligence regarding the vehicle please contact the police with information.”

Anyone wishing to report a disturbance can call the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
