Call for participants for the 'Big Wild Walk'

Date published: 13 October 2024

Rochdale residents are being encouraged to get active this October by taking part in a 30km fundraising challenge to help restore nature in the region.

The Lancashire Wildlife Trust’s Big Wild Walk, which also encourages walks in Greater Manchester, aims to be its biggest yet, rallying wildlife enthusiasts to raise vital funds for nature recovery across the UK.

Participants are invited to set their own challenge, with the goal of covering 30 kilometres in any way that suits them. whether it’s through walking, running, cycling, or wheeling.

The money raised will go towards Lancashire Wildlife Trust's efforts to protect 30% of the UK’s land and sea for wildlife by 2030, contributing to the charity’s ambitious £300,000 Step Up for Wildlife appeal.

To support participants, the Trust is offering a digital fundraising pack, which includes a sponsorship sheet, a distance tracking form, and pre-designed social media posts to help spread the word.

Lucy Coxhead, Fundraising Manager at Lancashire Wildlife Trust, said: “By taking a walk in our beautiful local landscapes across Lancashire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside, or wheeling around the block, everyone involved is playing a vital part in bringing nature back.

"Our staff are really looking forward to getting involved and doing their own fundraising by walking through a total of 30 of our nature reserves, and we'll be sharing photos throughout the week on our social media channels.”

The Big Wild Walk will take place from Monday 21 October, to Sunday 3 November 2024, coinciding with the half-term break, making it an ideal opportunity for families and people of all ages to enjoy the great outdoors while supporting a good cause.
