St Cuthbert’s year 11 students celebrate GCSE results

Date published: 23 August 2024

Students at St Cuthbert’s have been celebrating their GCSE results, having overcome significant challenges during their secondary school years.

The school’s lead prefect, Sarah, excelled with a series of outstanding results, including five grade 9s. Sarah is set to continue her academic journey at Rochdale Sixth Form College, where she will study A-levels in biology, chemistry, and politics.

With aspirations of pursuing a career in either dentistry or politics, Sarah expressed her pride in her time at St Cuthbert’s, particularly in her role as lead prefect.

She said: "I am extremely proud of being lead prefect at St Cuthbert’s and the opportunities that I have been supported in experiencing, such as being a member of the Youth Parliament for Rochdale. I am grateful to my teachers for all that they have done for me in supporting me in achieving excellent results, particularly Miss Meaden and Mrs Burlison, who have pushed me to achieve excellence in history and English."

Another student, Leah M, also achieved an impressive set of results. Reflecting on her time at St Cuthbert’s, Leah credited her success to the support of her friends and the opportunities provided by the school, including participation in maths competitions. Leah plans to study maths, biology, and Chemistry at A-level, inspired by her experiences at St Cuthbert’s.

She shared, "I believe that having such a wonderful set of friends has pushed me to achieve well. The opportunities that I have had at St Cuthbert’s, such as attending maths competitions, have encouraged me to study maths at A-level. My English teacher, Miss Meaden, has helped me through some hard times and kept me motivated to achieve my best." Leah’s mother, Leanne Fletcher, expressed her delight, saying, "I was so nervous last night, but I am over the moon with her results and immensely proud of her."

As the Year 11 students prepare for the next stages of their lives, whether that be college courses or apprenticeships, St Cuthbert’s wishes them every success in their future endeavours. The school hopes that they will look back on their time at St Cuthbert’s with great pride.
