National Parenting Week comes to Rochdale

Date published: 25 September 2007

Parents from Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton will be celebrating a fun-packed National Parents’ Week, 15-21 October 2007 organised by Sure Start and The Parenting Support Team.

The week will culminate with a celebratory event, ‘Fun4Families’, on Saturday 20 October.  The fun day this year will take place at Woodland Children’s Centre in Heywood between 11am and 2pm.  There will be nail art, tasty tuck shop, outdoor activities, community artists, the Doorstep Bus, circus skills and lots more.  Everyone is welcome and entrance is free.  Each year the event is planned and promoted by parents from Parents Matter2 and supported by The Parenting Team.

The Parenting Support Team has worked alongside parents and Children’s Centres to bring a whole week of fun activities designed to include the whole family.  During the week dads, mums, grandparents and carers can attend centres around the borough to join in activities with their children as well as activities with other parents. (For information about crèche places please contact your nearest Children’s Centre).

Parent forums take place around the borough on a regular basis. The forums encourage parents to have a voice within their own community and also influence local services.

Parents Matter2 is a representative group of all the forums in the borough. Parents Matter2 have met on a monthly basis and over the last twelve months have held 11 forums across the borough to have a stronger voice within the community, and influence decision makers of local services that directly involve themselves and their families.

The forums encourage new parents to join them and try out the Children’s Centres during National Parents’ Week.

For more information about the activities taking place in the Rochdale Borough during National Parents’ Week week, please contact your nearest Children’s Centre or alternatively telephone on 0845 226 5533.
