Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To fix a leaking water main - Corporation Road

Expected start and finish: Sunday 26 May - Sunday 16 June 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Corporation Road from a point 152 metres south of its junction with Albion Road for a distance of 35 metres in a southerly direction.

Reason: To install gas mains in the road - Melville Street

Expected start and finish: Monday 20 May 2024 – Monday 17 June 2024
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary one-way working along Melville Street, from the junction with Albion Street to a point 20 metres away in a northerly direction. Vehicles won't be allowed to travel north between these points.
  • Temporary prohibition of vehicles travelling along St Martin's Street from its junction of Albion Street from a point of 20 metres in a northerly direction on both sides of the carriageway.
  • Temporary prohibition of vehicles travelling along St Martin's Street from its junction of Albion Street from a point of 20 metres in a southerly direction on both sides of the carriageway.

Temporary prohibition of waiting along the following points:

  • Melville Street, from its junction with Albion Street for a distance of 20 metres in a northerly direction.
  • St Martin’s Street, from its junction with Albion Street for a distance of 20 metres in a northerly direction.
  • St Martin’s Street, from its junction with Albion Street for a distance of 20 metres in a southerly direction.
  • Albion Street, from its junction with Newchurch Street, from a point of 10 metres in a westerly direction, to its junction of Colne Street, from a point of 10 metres in an easterly direction for a total distance of 170 meters on both sides of the carriageway.

Alternative route:

  • The alternative route to access Melville Street will be Albion Street, Colne Street and Hillcrest Road.
  • The alternative route to access St Martin's Street in a northerly direction will be Albion Street, Colne Street and Hillcrest Road.
  • The alternative route to access St Martin's Street in a southerly direction will be Albion Street, Newchurch Street and Grosvenor Street.

Reason: To repair electricity services in the road - Caton Street.

Expected start and finish: Monday 3 June 2024 – Friday 7 June 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Caton Street. This will start from a point 18 metres north west of its junction with Back Drake Street and continue for a distance of 12 metres in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Back Drake Street, Ann Street, Drake Street, Church Stile and Great George Street.

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Ramsey Terrace, for its entire length.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Ellis Fold from a point 146 metres north of its junction with Nordale Park for a distance of 45 metres in a northerly direction.

Reason: To install a new electricity service connection on behalf of Electricity North West - Yorkshire Street

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 17 June 2024 – 6pm, Thursday 20 June 2024.
Restriction and location: 

  • Temporary suspension of limited waiting along the north west side of Yorkshire Street, from a point 10 metres south west of its junction with Union Street for a distance of 32 metres in a north westerly direction.
  • Temporary prohibition of waiting at any time along the south west side of Yorkshire Street, from its junction with Union Street to a point 32 metres in a south westerly direction.

Reason: To clear blockages under the road - Caldershaw Road & Bagslate Moor Road

Expected start and finish: 5am – 2pm, Sunday 30 June 2024
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Caldershaw Road from its junction with Edenfield Road to a point 30 metres away in a northerly direction.
  • Temporary restriction of vehicles turning left from Bagslate Moor Road onto Edenfield Road.

Alternative route:

  • The alternative route to access Caldershaw Road will be Edenfield Road, Ings Lane, Ings Avenue and Caldershaw Road.
  • The alternative route to access Edenfield Road from Bagslate Moor Road will be Bagslate Moor Road, Moorland Avenue and Edenfield Road.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out works to the pavement and road, and install parking bays - Pershore Road

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 28 May 2024 – Friday 19 July 2024
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary one-way working in a south westerly direction along Pershore Road, from a point 87 metres west of its junction with Nowell Road to its junction with Sherbourne Road. Vehicles won't be allowed to travel in a north easterly direction along Pershore Road between these 2 points.
  • During the times the works are active, vehicles won't be allowed to turn either left or right from Sherbourne Road onto Pershore Road.

Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic that would otherwise travel along Pershore Road in a north easterly direction is Sherbourne Road, Nowell Road and Pershore Road.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To examine the railway bridge - Joshua Lane

Expected start and finish: 10pm, Thursday 6 June 2024 – 6am, Friday 7 June 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Joshua Lane. The section closed will be between the junction with Oak Street and the junction with Hercules Green.
Alternative route: The alternative route will be Mills Hill Road, Middleton Road, Oldham Road, Townley Street, Grimshaw Lane, Lees Street and Joshua Lane.

Reason: To replace gas mains in the road - Oldham Road

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 3 July 2024 – Friday 2 August 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary suspension of the bus lane on the offside lane of the southerly carriageway. This will be from a point 37 metres west of the Oldham Road, Ashton Lane and Assheton Way roundabout for a distance of 75 metres in a westerly direction.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out required works to pavement and road on the Queens Park Road bridge and help traffic flow.

Expected start and finish: January 2024 – December 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Introduce one-way working in a northerly direction along Queens Park Road, from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road,
  • Introduce one-way working in a southerly direction along Bamford Road from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road,

Alternative routes:

  • The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road is via Bury and Rochdale Old Road (B6222), Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58) and Queens Park Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to Bury and Rochdale Old Road is via Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58), Queens Park Road and Bury and Rochdale Old Road.

Reason: To hold the parade of the La Decima Carnival

Expected start and finish: The parade will proceed along Cherwell Avenue, Bank Top Street, Peel Lane, Furness Avenue and Clay Bank Street between 11am – 12.30pm on Saturday 8 June 2024.
Restriction and location: Waiting will be prohibited along the following streets. This will apply to the full length of each street unless otherwise stated.

  • Cherwell Avenue, from its junction with Derby Street to its junction with Millbank Street.
  • Bank Top Street, from its junction with Cherwell Avenue to its junction with George Street.
  • Peel Lane.
  • Furness Avenue.
  • Clay Bank Street, from its junction with Furness Avenue to its junction with Peel Lane.

Alternative route:Due to the nature and duration of the parade, it is not necessary for alternative routes to be in place.

Reason: To carry out pavement works and roadworks - Queens Park Road

Expected start and finish: 8pm–7am each day from Monday 17 June 2024 – Friday 21 June 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Queens Park Road. This will be between the entrance to Queens Park Car Park and its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
Alternative route: Bury and Rochdale Old Road, Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street and Queens Park Road.

Reason: To hold the Heywood 1940s Day event and parade in Heywood town centre

Expected start and finish:

  • The temporary closure of Hind Hill Street will run from 7am–6pm on Saturday, 22 June 2024.
  • The temporary closure of the other streets for the parade will run from 12.30pm–3pm on Saturday, 22 June 2024.
  • The temporary prohibition of waiting at any time will run from 6am–6pm on Saturday, 22 June 2024.

Temporary road closures: the following roads will be closed. This will apply to the full length of each road unless otherwise stated.

  • Tower Street, from its junction with School Street to its junction with St James Street.
  • St James Street.
  • Bridge Street, from its junction with St James Street to its junction with Dawson Street and Market Street.

  • Bamford Road, from its junction with Dawson Street to its junction with Market Place.
  • Market Place.
  • L/Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way.
  • Hartley Street.
  • York Street, from its junction with Hartley Street to its junction with Market Place.
  • Market Street, from its junction with Market Place to its junction with Bridge Street.
  • Hill Street, from its junction with Fox Street to its junction with Market Street.

Temporary prohibition of parking: Hill Street, from its junction with Fox Street to its junction with Market Street.

Alternative route: The alternative routes for the Hill Street closure are:

  • Clockwise: Fox Street, Brunswick Street, Tower Street, St James Street, Bridge Street, Dawson Street, Bamford Road and Market Street.
  • Anti-clockwise: Fox Street, Hind Hill Street, Market Place and Market Street.

Reason: To improve the roads and pavements - Regent Street

Expected start and finish: 9.30am-3.30pm every day between Monday 24 June 2024 - Friday 9 August 2024.
Restriction and location: 

  • Temporary one-way working along Regent Street from a point 34 metres west of its junction with Pilsworth Road to its junction with Regent Close.
  • Vehicles won't be able to travel along Regent Street in a westerly direction from its junction with Regent Close to a point 34 metres east of its junction with Pilsworth Road.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles wanting to travel along Regent Street in an easterly direction is High Street, Bridge Street and Pilsworth Road.

Reason: To install new traffic calming measures - Egerton Street and Coomassie Street

Expected start and finish: 9.30am-3.30pm every day between Monday 24 June 2024 - Friday 16 August 2024.
Restriction and location

  • Temporary closure of Egerton Street from its junction with Coomassie Street to its junction with Pilsworth Road for a distance of 340 metres in a westerly direction.When Egerton Street is closed Coomassie Street will be open.
  • Temporary closure of Coomassie Street from its junction with Egerton Street to its junction of Cartridge Street for a distance of 220 metres in a northerly direction. When Coomassie Street is closed Egerton Street will be open.

Alternative routes: 

  • The alternative route for vehicles wanting to access Egerton Street will be Hind Hill Street, Church Street, Market Place, Market Street, Bridge Street and Pilsworth Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles wanting to access Coomassie Street will be Egerton Street, Pilsworth Road, Tower Street and Cartridge Street.

Reason: To replace a transformer in the substation - Elbut Lane

Expected start and finish: 9.30am–3.30pm, Monday 1 July 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Elbut Lane. This will start at its junction with Weythorne Drive and continue for a distance of 40 metres in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be using Weythorne Drive.

Reason: To hold the Darnhill Festival Parade

Expected start and finish: 11.45am–12noon, Saturday 6 July 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Argyle Street, from its easterly junction with Sutherland Road to its westerly junction with Sutherland Road.
  • Argyle Parade, for its entire length.
  • Sutherland Road, from its easterly junction with Argyle Street to its westerly junction with Argyle Street.

Alternative route: Due to the nature and duration of the event, it is not necessary for alternative routes to be in place.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: To hold the Littleborough Food and Drink Festival

Expected start and finish: The road closures and temporary one-way working will be operative from 8am–6pm, Saturday 8 June 2024.
The temporary prohibition of parking will be operative from 6am–6pm, Saturday 8 June 2024.
Restriction and location: Road closures: sections of the following roads will be closed:

  • Hare Hill Road, from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Greenwood Street.
  • Victoria Street, from its junction with Lodge Street to its junction with Wellington Street.

Temporary one-way working: vehicles won't be able to travel down Hare Hill Road in a south easterly direction, from its junction with Sale Street to its junction with Greenwood Street.

Prohibition of waiting: vehicles won't be permitted to wait at any time along sections of the following roads:

  • Hare Hill Road, from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Sale Street.
  • Victoria Street, from its junction with Lodge Street to its junction with Wellington Street.

Alternative route: The alternative route for Hare Hill Road will be Church Street, Featherstall Road, Whitelees Road and Hare Hill Road.
Any other alternative routes will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.

  • Newhey Road from the west side of the M62 Bridge to its junction with New Street
