Undeterred by her arrest at the Faslane nuclear base on 1 October, local peace campaigner, Pat Sanchez brought her peace campaigning back to Rochdale on Saturday (27 October).
She joined other members of Rochdale and Littleborough Peace Group who distributed leaflets to passers-by outside the Wheatsheaf Centre. The leaflets called for an end to both the Trident nuclear weapons system and to plans for sites in Yorkshire to be used as part of the US missile defence system; also known as ‘son of star wars’.
Mrs Sanchez said: "I have been arrested twice this year, along with 1,110 other people for attempting non-violent blockades of the Faslane nuclear base and I am determined to continue campaigning against Trident and against all nuclear weapons.
"As Gordon Brown said when Margaret Thatcher first introduced the Trident system into Britain, it is 'unacceptable, expensive, economically wasteful and militarily unsound'.
"Like the so-called missile defence system and the US spy bases at Menwith Hill and Fylingdales, it exposes us to danger and threatens the future of our planet.
"We shall be campaigning against this nuclear madness for as long as it takes.
"We are very pleased to know that we have the support of the overwhelming majority of people both in Rochdale and throughout the country."
